Post Date:05/17/2018 6:01 PM
The City of Rock Hill earned the Reliable Public Power Provider (RP3®) Diamond level designation from the American Public Power Association (APPA) for providing reliable and safe electric service. Neil James, Manager of Distribution Operations at ‎Santee Cooper, South Carolina and chair of the Association’s RP3 Review Panel, presented the designations on April 30 during the Association’s annual Engineering & Operations Technical Conference held in Raleigh, N.C.

Since 2006, APPA’S RP3 program has recognized the nation’s top public utilities in the Gold, Platinum, and Diamond categories that demonstrate proficiency in four key disciplines: reliability, safety, workforce development and system improvement. Criteria include sound business practices and a utility-wide commitment to safe and reliable delivery of electricity.  The earned designation level lasts for three years.

Nationwide, 240 public power utilities hold the RP3 designation.  The City of Rock Hill is one of 92 utilities nationwide to earn the highest level Diamond designation. “This designation is about more than just reliability. It’s about operational excellence,” said James. “These utilities and their communities should be proud to represent the best of the best in the areas of reliability, safety, workforce development, and system improvement.”

“This is a great honor,” said Mike Jolly, Director of Electric Utilities of City of Rock Hill. “We take of a lot of pride in the work we do to be a quality public power partner in the Rock Hill community.
