 Program Philosophy & Overview

The Rock Hill Parks, Recreation & Tourism Department strives to offer quality programs that emphasizes participation, skill development, sportsmanship, and fun in a whole, supportive environment.  PRT is also dedicated to providing a safe environment for those participating in youth sports programs run by the City. Find out more about our Safety Initiatives.

Youth Girls Softball is offered in the spring for girls ages 7-12. Practices and games are held on outlying fields in Rock Hill, and games are played at Cherry Park on weekday evenings.  Shirts and visors are included with the program fee.  Participants are responsible for gloves & cleats.   The program fee also includes mandatory accident insurance, which remains in effect for all city-sponsored athletic activities within that calendar year.

Registration
Registration typically begins at the end of January and runs for 3 or 4 weeks.  Registration for those age groups that play later in the season may be taken for a longer period of time.  A Registration Brochure with program details and registration form will be posted to this website when it becomes available mid-January.  First time participants will need to present a copy of a birth certificate to register.  There are several ways to register.   Registration Details

Skills Evaluation
A Skills Evaluation will be held for Fast Pitch division.  This process assists staff in creating balanced teams.   During Skills Evaluation, players will run through a series of basic drills to allow staff to access their experience/skill level.  The date and time of the Skills Evaluation will be specified in the Registration Brochure.   Coach Pitch division players are assigned to teams and do not go through Skills Evaluation.

Team Notification & First Practice
After teams are assigned, you will be notified by your coach as to your team’s practice schedule and practice location.

Team Photos
Team photos are typically done on a Saturday morning during the season. At the beginning of the season.

Season & Game Schedules
Your coach will provide you with a game schedule.  Season and game schedules are also posted to the PRT Sports League Schedule webpage. Games are played throughout York County (Fort Mill, York, Clover and Tega Cay).

Weather Cancellation
Decisions to cancel games will be based on current weather conditions and/or field conditions. Normally, games will not be cancelled until near the scheduled starting time. As soon as games are cancelled, the decision will be posted to the weather line. If PRT determines that weather and/or field conditions necessitate the cancellation of practices, the decision will be posted on the weather line. However, a coach may decide to cancel a practice due to weather independently of PRT. If this is the case, the coach will contact players to let them know. Softball Weather Line: 803-325-2688.

Code of Ethics
All parents and/or legal guardians will be required to sign a Parents Code of Ethics.
