Bicycle and Pedestrian Planning

The City developed a bicycle and pedestrian plan that seeks to improve the safety and accessibility for bicyclists and pedestrians in the areas that surround Winthrop University and Downtown Rock Hill. The Plan provides recommendations to improve key streets through the College Town area with on-road bicycle facilities and an enhanced pedestrian environment. The City adopted the Plan on November 12, 2012.
College Town Area Bicycle and Pedestrian Plan

The City hired bicycle and pedestrian planning experts, Alta Planning + Design, to provide their recommendations, along with cost estimates that improves the identified primary and secondary corridors through the College Town area to have on-road bicycle facilities and an enhanced pedestrian environment. The Bicycle and Pedestrian Task Force assessed the College Town streets around Winthrop University and Downtown Rock Hill as well as key connector routes by analyzing the opportunities and constraints of creating and/or improving bicycle and pedestrian travel. Assessment

Learn about the Giordana Velodrome, Piedmont Medical Center Trail, and the mountain bike trails at the Rock Hill Outdoor Center in the Riverwalk community.   More outdoor recreation venues and programs are under development including the Novant Health BMX Supercross Track.
