Park Open Daily Dawn to Dusk   Park Rules (PDF)  History

This monument is on the corner of Black Street and Dave Lyle Boulevard in downtown Rock Hill, where the historic African-American Business District was located until its demolition in the early 1970's.  The monument pays tribute to the businesses that served the African-American community, recalling the storefront look of “days gone by” with historical images and references.  The monument has also become an educational resource for the community.

Parking is available at the municipal parking lot on the corner of Dave Lyle Blvd. and Black Street, directly across from the monument.

Fundraising

Fundraising for the African-American Business District Monument was spearheaded by the African-American Cultural Resources Committee, formed in October 2012, to define the historic outline of the African-American cultural, residential, and commercial communities within Rock Hill, SC. These dedicated citizens worked to collect, catalogue and preserve this rich history.  This group is now active as an Advisory Committee to the City’s Parks, Recreation and Tourism Department.

Sponsorships

A variety of sponsorship opportunities exist for the monument for those who are interested.
