Edward Byrne Memorial Justice Assistance Grant (JAG)
FY 2019 Local Solicitation (CFDA # 16.738)

The Justice Assistance Grant (JAG) is a direct grant award that provides units of local government with critical funding necessary to support a range of program areas including law enforcement and technology improvement programs. The City of Rock Hill and the Rock Hill Police Department (RHPD) have been awarded $33,052 for the 2019 Fiscal Year Local JAG Solicitation. This grant does not require matching funds from the RHPD and official approval by the governing body is not necessary.
RHPD’s Chief of Police and Command Staff have made the decision to use the awarded funds to purchase stationary license plate readers (LPRs) in order to collect license plate numbers and location data along with the exact date and time a vehicle was captured by the camera. The data collected by LPRs provides real-time benefits for stolen vehicles and wanted suspects as well as evidence for better quality leads in criminal investigations. By positioning stationary LPRs in Rock Hill, the RHPD will not only be able to collect license plate data but will also be able to share data with surrounding law enforcement agencies.

The Bureau of Justice Assistance requires that all JAG applications be made available for review and citizens are provided with an opportunity to comment prior to application submission.  To review the application or offer comments please contact Nicole Cauthen, Grants Administrator at 803-326-3837 or by August 21, 2019.
