Catawba-Wateree River Basin at Stage 2 Drought

Post Date:05/01/2026 4:31 PM

Despite recent rain, continued dry conditions led the Catawba-Wateree Drought Management Advisory Group (CW-DMAG) to announce the Catawba-Wateree River Basin is in a Stage 2 Drought/Mandatory Conservation according to the Low Inflow Protocol (LIP).

We ask customers to reduce non-essential water use. Limit the use of sprinkler and irrigation systems, backyard water-based recreation activities, and domestic washing down of vehicles, buildings, sidewalks and driveways as much as possible.

We encourage the use of low-flow, drip irrigation and handheld watering for landscaping maintenance. For most efficient watering, irrigate overnight, avoiding water runoff.

Information on drought response is included in the Municipal Code of Ordinances (Chapter 29. Article IV) on the City website. Additional information on the drought declaration can be found at https://www.catawbawatereewmg.org/drought-resources.

Water conservation tips are available on the City website at www.cityofrockhill.com/conserve and at the Environmental Protection Agency’s WaterSense website atwww.epa.gov/watersense.
