Candidates can apply by downloading an employment application (PDF) to fill out and return, or in person in the Human Resources Department, located at City Hall, 155 Johnston Street, Room 230. If returning the application by mail, please note "Attention: Human Resources Department" on the outside of the envelope.

Human Resources administers a written exam and conducts background investigations of the applicants and if you successfully complete this phase of the process, your application is then forwarded to the Fire Department.

Once your application is received by the Fire Department, it will be held until a Physical Strength/Conditioning Evaluation (PAT) is scheduled. The PAT will be conducted at the Rock Hill Fire Training Center located at 2151 Ogden Road. All applicants who successfully complete this phase will be assigned a date, time and location for an oral interview.

The applicant who successfully completes all phases of the hiring process will then have their name placed on an Eligible for Hire list from which all openings within the Suppression Division of the Fire Department are filled.
