Kathy Pender

For more than 30 years Kathy has invested her energy in building community in Rock Hill.  Kathy has served as a City Council member since 2004 and is currently the Mayor Pro-Tem for the City of Rock Hill.  She serves on the Rock Hill-Fort Mill Transportation Policy Committee, the executive committee of the South Carolina Municipal Association, and is the past chair of the Housing Development Corporation. Kathy also serves on the board of the Nation Ford Land Trust.

Before election to City Council, Kathy served for 14 years on the Rock Hill School Board, and as its chair for six years. During a period when local schools were experiencing significant growth, she led the district to address challenges of balancing quality programs for all children with responsible financial management.

At her church, First Presbyterian (Rock Hill), Kathy has served as an elder, choir member, Sunday school teacher, and chair of the Finance and Personnel committees. She is a member of the Rock Hill Kiwanis Club, where she previously chaired the Terrific Kids program, and a church coordinator for Family Promise.  She is a sustaining member of the Junior Welfare League and a member of the American Association of University Women.

Kathy earned a degree in journalism from Georgia State University and worked as a newspaper reporter. She and her husband, Robert, have two married adult children, Kathryn and Gibbon, and five grandchildren.
