These introductory kayak experiences will focus on the essential skills you need to confidently and successfully navigate slow-moving rivers like the Catawba. Our American Canoe Association certified instructors will provide all the necessary equipment and personalized instruction to meet your specific paddling needs and goals.
Each Introduction Moving Water Kayaking course will be customized to fit the ability and experience level of your group. Course objectives can include:
Confidently and successfully paddle your kayak without becoming exhausted and frustrated.
Learn to navigate the river more easily and will be less likely to hit rocks.
Increase your chances of staying up right in your kayak while paddling in moving water.
Choose and fit a kayak, life jacket and helmet.
Confidently plan a kayak trip on rivers with rapids up to Class I.
Choose and pack proper group equipment for a river trip.
Get yourself out of the river and back into your boat after a capsize.
Get where you want to go on the river more easily and efficiently.
Evaluate Class I rapids and set appropriate safety for a group.
Size up common rescue situations and decide on a best course of actions.
Coach a swimmer through an efficient and effective self-rescue.
Execute a variety of boat-based rescues of swimmers, boats and, and equipment.
