Learn the FUNdamentals of flatwater kayaking without the stress of keeping up with a large group or being pressured to go beyond your comfort zone!

Our Leisure Kayaking courses are short, gentle, comfortable introductions to the world of lake or pond kayaking. Our certified American Canoe Association instructors will work with you one-on-one in a small group setting as you learn the basic skills you need to enjoy this life-long leisure activity.

This clinic is based on the American Canoe Association  Level 1: Introduction to Kayaking curriculum.

At the end of Leisure Kayaking 101, you will be able to:

  •  Stay safe by identifying and avoiding common hazards
  •  Choose and Fit proper personal kayaking equipment
  •  Get into and out of your kayak without falling in the water
  •  Confidently and successfully paddle your kayak without becoming overly exhausted and frustrated

At the end of Leisure Kayaking 102, you will be able to:

  • Confidently plan your own flatwater kayaking trip
  • Choose and pack proper group kayaking equipment
  • Get yourself out of water and back into your boat after a capsize
  • Help someone else in your group if they fall out of their kayak and into the water

At the end of Leisure Kayaking 103, you will be able to:

  • Size up common rescue situations and decide on a best course of action
  • Coach a swimmer through an efficient and effective self-rescue
  • Identify the advantages and disadvantages of multiple towing techniques
  • Perform a variety of boat-based rescue techniques for swimmers, boats, and equipment
