A fire alarm permit is required for the installation of a new fire alarm system or modifications or additions to existing systems. Fire Alarm System installers are required to be licensed by the SC State Contractors' Licensing Board. A City of Rock Hill business license is also required.
Please note, the SC Board of Professional Engineers requires that fire sprinkler monitoring plans and fire alarm plans for buildings not exempted by SC Code of Laws, Section 40-22-280 (http://www.scstatehouse.gov/code/t40c022.php) must be sealed by a South Carolina Professional Engineer.
Submit PDF files or two paper copies of the fire alarm system drawings, specifications, permit application and plan submittal form to the Permit Application Center (PAC). View the Fire Alarm Plan Checklist for more information about what to include on your plans. Plan review may take up to 10 business days. Plans may be submitted the following ways:
- Electronically - Electronic plan submission is preferred and allows for a faster plan review. Please combine all sheets into one .pdf file and add bookmarks listing the sheet number to each page. Once plans are approved, a paper copy will be requested. Submit plans using the following -
- Via FTP site (contact us for login info)
- Via Online Services website
- Paper - Plans may be mailed or hand delivered to the PAC. Two paper copies are needed.
The fire inspector will perform a system test. An approved copy of the drawings stamped "field copy" are required to be on the job site. Contact the PAC to schedule the inspection at 803/329-5590 or schedule online.
