A building permit is required to perform minor renovations or remodeling work to a structure.  This includes replacing windows, removing or adding walls, repairing or replacing siding and similar work.  For commercial or multi-family renovations, an architecturally sealed drawing may be required.  Please see the Interior Upfit or Renovation page for more information.

Exterior repairs to structures in the Historic District require special approval from the Rock Hill Board of Historic Review. Complete a Certificate of Appropriateness application for work to a structure in the Historic District.

Process

Complete a building permit application and submit to the Permit Application Center. Depending on the scope of work, more information or a floor plan may be required. New windows should meet the current energy code requirements. Provide the window specifications with your permit application. You will also need to submit a copy of your contract/ job estimate with the permit application. Plan review may be required depending on the scope of the work and may take up to 10 business days. You can apply for your permit online, by email, by mail or in person.  The permit fee is based on the value of the work performed.
