Get ready

Required documents

  1. Sketch plan showing the location of the construction trailer, setbacks from all property lines, and all existing utilities that will service the construction trailer
  2. Construction trailer plans, including floor plan, dimensions, and tie-down, step and landing details
    • Indicate whether a bathroom will be present
      • If yes, and you are not proposing to tie into an existing sanitary sewer line, provide a letter from the waste disposal vendor stating how often the holding container will be emptied.
  3. If located off the construction site, submit a temporary use permit application

Required licenses

  1. Business licenses are required for all design professionals, contractors and subcontractors before a building permit can be issued. 
  2. The contractor must hold the appropriate State of South Carolina license for the specified scope of work.

Have utility lines marked

Request that all utility providers come mark the location of utilities at least 3 full business days before you dig. This is required by state law and is a free service.

Apply

  1. Apply Online using the button above.
    •  Click on “New Applications"
    • Click on “Permit Applications”
    • Click on “Residential” or "Commercial" depending on the use of the property
    • Click on “Construction Trailer" and follow the prompts from there
  2. City staff will review your plan and send comments back to the designated contact person on the application within approximately 3 business days.
  3. After the above has been completed, we will process your permit, which may take another couple of days.
  4. At this time, we will email you an invoice for the development fees, which will be paid through our online portal. Beware of scammers trying to obtain false payment through wire transfer or other mechanisms.

After you have a permit

  1. Install the temporary electric pole or saw pole.
  2. Schedule a temporary power inspection. Use the "Apply Online" button above and then click on "Inspections."
  3. Install the construction trailer.  
  4. Request a final inspection by calling us at 803-329-5590.

After the work is complete

  1. Remove the construction trailer within 30 days after construction activities have concluded.
  2. Contact Utilities Dispatch directly to disconnect services at 803-329-5500, Option 0.
