Rock Hill Utilities Vegetation Management

The City utilizes contracted tree and herbicide crews to maintain vegetation away from our electric distribution system. The tree crews work year-round on a 4-year cycle to maintain the vegetation from our above ground high voltage lines, while our herbicide contractor will work system-wide every year periodically during the growing season. Rights-of-way are maintained utilizing the latest industry standards and best management practices outlined in the American National Standards Institute's (ANSI) A-300 Standards and the International Society of Arboriculture (ISA) Integrated Vegetation Management practices.

Prevent Power Outages

  • Periodically trim trees.
  • Look for wires overhead before planting a tree.
  • Free and clear service lines of tree branches.
  • If a tree fails from natural causes or a naturally occurring event and damages a utility line or pole it is the property owners responsibility to clean up debris.

Memorial Tree Program

The City has a program in which citizens can donate $25 and have a tree planted in memory or honor of a loved one. Trees are planted in groups, rather than individually, and individual trees are not specifically identified. However, the City provides a full color certificate listing the planting date and location, and type of tree that was planted. For more information about the City's Memorial Tree Program, contact the City Forester, Matt Clinton, at 803-329-5534.
